Closer to Human isn’t just a reissue—it’s a resurrection. Armed with the very synths and samples used in the original 2005 recording, Graves has meticulously rebuilt every track from the ground up. The result? A reimagining that remains true to its roots while achieving a level of depth and clarity never before possible. AESTHETIC PERFECTION has never sounded better.

In an exclusive partnership with Dependent Records, Closer to Human will be available in limited quantities as a 1-disc digisleeve, 2-disc digipak, and colored vinyl.
There is more than one way to listen to BEBORN BETON's ninth album "Darkness Falls Again": it is possible to just dance and enjoy contemporary synth pop hymns that have a solid musical based in the golden 80s with a dash of cool 90s influences. Catchy tunes and mature songwriting combine to form a sonic joyride. Yet BEBORN BETON also put their finger right on the pulse of our time and speak out against misogyny, sexual discrimination, and environmental destruction. BEBORN BETON were founded by vocalist Stefan Netschio, keyboard player and drummer Stefan Tillmann, and keyboard player Michael Wagner in 1989. The trio set out with the declared aim to keep synth pop relevant and give it meaning. Following their first two regular albums "Tybalt" (1993) and "Concrete Ground" (1994), BEBORN BETON joined renowned acts such as WOLFSHEIM and DE/VISION in a new label home. Having conquered Germany, the three electro-musicians rapidly expanded their realm abroad with the 1996 full-length "Nightfall", followed by "Truth" in 1997, and "Fake" (1999) that gained the Germans international acclaim by critics and fans alike. By the time, "Rückkehr zum Eisplaneten" ('Return to the Ice-Planet') was released in 2000, BEBORN BETON had firmly positioned themselves as a headlining act within their scene and toured all the strongholds of electronic music. Yet heavy touring and the highly demanding creative output of so many excellent albums in quick succession took their toll. After the release of "Tales from Another World" (2002) and an exhausting US tour, BEBORN BETON went on an extended hiatus. 13 years later, BEBORN BETON returned with a new album on Dependent Recordings to the delight and surprise of their still huge following. "A Worthy Compensation" (2015) was showered with accolades from the relevant magazines. Having learned from previous experiences and not to fall back into a relentless production cycle, BEBORN BETON took their time to write another masterpiece. "Darkness Falls Again" has all the ingredients that make synth pop great. Catchy songs that make the legs twitch, a dash of melancholy, a pinch of irony, and a knife-tip of anger – music with a meaning. Welcome back BEBORN BETON!
IRIS - Wrath from 26.87 $

IRIS are dead, long live IRIS! Although Andrew Sega and Reagan Jones have officially announced to part amicably at the end of last year, their many adherents do not need to fall into despair.
With the band's expressed consent, Dependent will reissue the long out-of-print third album "Wrath" in two special editions. This pinnacle out of IRIS' impressive catalogue will be released with a new mastering for the first time as a limited 12" vinyl with improved, high-resolution cover artwork. "Wrath" will also re-appear in the shape of a must-have limited edition double CD artbook, containing the remastered album, an exclusive 10-track bonus CD, live photos and liner notes by J. Ned Kirby (STROMKERN) and Dependent founder Stefan Herwig.
J. Ned Kirby, who has supported IRIS live on tour several times, sheds an inside view on the reasons for the reissue of "Wrath": "Each individual album by Iris represents a post-grad course in songwriting and production," the American writes. "Yet with its ten incomparable arrangements for ten perfect songs, 'Wrath' achieves the level of a masterclass. From the explosive opening through 'Land of Fire' to the hopeful coda of 'Delivered One', this is what a band firing from all guns sounds like. On 'Wrath', no element is out of place, no chord is too ordinary, and no song is too long even a second. Or in short: this album is fantastic!"
On 'Wrath', IRIS fused their concise sound design with increasingly prominent guitars for the first time in order to create outstanding songs. This, combined with Reagan Jones' distinctive vocals, resulted in a shoegaze-effect that set IRIS a world apart from the grey mass of random synthpop acts. With the lavish re-release of "Wrath", Dependent pay tribute to an excellent album that has lost nothing of its original fascination even after 15 years.
"The Machine in the Ghost" marks HAUJOBB's impressive tenth studio album that is again different from all its predecessors. The Leipzig based duo plainly refuses to do the same thing twice. What sets "The Machine in the Ghost" apart is the prominent use of fieldwork recordings to create the sounds for this album. To achieve the desired effects, HAUJOBB used a mix of software and hardware – the latter in the shape of everyday items. This deliberate nod to a time with less software and more analogue shifting of the dials complements the theme of "The Machine in the Ghost" with a retro touch, yet without indulging in mere nostalgia for its own sake. The album revolves around the highly charged relationship between mind and matter, analogue and digital. When HAUJOBB were founded as a trio in the West German city of Bielefeld, their main influences came from the Vancouver school of industrial, in particular SKINNY PUPPY and FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY. This is audible on their early full-length "Homes & Gardens" (1993), but it did not take HAUJOBB long to become themselves regarded as figureheads of a modern electronic industrial sound. On the following albums, "Freeze Frame Reality" (1995) and "Solutions for a Small Planet" (1996), the Germans moved away from their Canadian roots and began to amalgamate IDM (intelligent dance music) with industrial and EBM. This catapulted the Germans onto the international scene and gained them cult status in the US. After HAUJOBB became a duo, they continued to have a strong impact and in particular their 2011 self-released album "New World March" is widely regarded as another milestone. With "The Machine in the Ghost", HAUJOBB have created another exciting chapter in their remarkable career. At the very beginning of the next industrial and creative revolution ignited by the furious rise of artificial intelligence, HAUJOBB still have their metaphorical musical fingers right on the pulse of time.
KIRLIAN CAMERA are an ever churning maelstrom of creativity and musical innovation. Their inspirational power is both, destructive when it comes to limitations of genre, style, and conventions as well as constructive for example regarding building a new sonic architecture on the ruins of the old. The Italians latest masterpiece, "Radio Signals for the Dying", is no exception as a new artistic high-watermark. On the surface, KIRLIAN CAMERA continue on the dark musical path they chose to follow on their previous double album "Cold Pills (Scarlet Gate of Toxic Daybreak)" (2021). It speaks volumes about the Italian electro-provocateurs' extreme level of energy that the band is able to follow up such a massive work with another powerful double full-length. Yet "Radio Signals for the Dying" is anything but a mere repeat of its glorious predecessor. Instead KIRLIAN CAMERA subtly change their sound design by a thousand smart details, delightful tricks, grand effects, unexpected twists, digressions, and clever variations of existing themes. For many decades, KIRLIAN CAMERA have inhabited and continue to dwell in a realm of multi-layered constructions and occult transcendence as well as subversive content that has always been at the core of their art. In the past, their unapologetic at times outrageous delight to provoke and to hold a truth-telling mirror to the world has repeatedly sparked controversy. Having passed their impressive 40th anniversary as a constantly evolving, ever changing band that has never ceased to search for new answers, KIRLIAN CAMERA invite the listener with "Radio Signals for the Dying" to join them on an adventurous musical journey to occult dimensions and magical places of dangerous beauty and joyful darkness. The Italians are electronic shamans, rock mystics, sonic revolutionaries, and high priests of the free arts that are again reborn as a musical phoenix in creative fire.
Although the musicians had known for a while that their beloved friend and colleague was losing his epic struggle with cancer, the realisation of it actually happening landed with such a massive impact that nobody ever could have prepared for. Exactly a year after this dreadful day, COVENANT have announced the "Andreas EP", which is the Swedes' first release in nearly a decade. The EP is a tribute to the dear friend and colleague lost but also intended for charity as all proceeds will be going to Andreas Catjar-Danielsson's widow and their two children. "Andreas EP" contains five experimental tracks including two cover versions by YAZOO ('Winter Kills') and LEE HAZLEWOOD ('A Rider on a White Horse'). COVENANT were conceived in the city of Helsingborg in Sweden's southernmost province of Skåne, only a short boat trip away from Helsingør on the Danish side of the water in 1988 by a bunch of young lads that were inspired by the flourishing scene of European electronic music spearheaded by bands such as DEPECHE MODE, KRAFTWERK, THE HUMAN LEAGUE, and FRONT 242 to name but a few. COVENANT chose their name as a symbol of the especially strong bond of friendship that they shared. Throughout their outstanding career, which is currently spanning nine acclaimed studio full-lengths and two live albums, COVENANT have always moved forward, searched for new exciting ways of expression, and pushed the boundaries of electronic music. Emotional intelligence combined with excellent musical craftsmanship, and a knack for catchy tunes has brought the Northern Europeans to the forefront of electronic music and made them a household name of the scene. Dependent Records support this charity with all their hearts and will waive all proceeds from the "Andreas EP".
These included the 'lost' demo "Summer 02" and single "Dark Raver", which are both officially released for the first time on "Truth Is Fanatic". The famous "Exterminate Annihilate Destroy" single and celebrated live performance from the DNA Lounge in San Francisco as US-tour support for COVENANT constitute the bonus material of “Welcome to Goodbye”. ROTERSAND detonated onto the German scene seemingly out of nowhere in the early new millennium. Named after an iconic red-and-white banded old lighthouse that used to guide ships in the German Bight, ROTERSAND left the impression of being downright omnipresent. ROTERSAND were formed in 2002 by former THE FAIR SEX bassist Rascal aka Rasc, who moved to the frontman position and joined forces with multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Gunther 'Gun' Gerl. The duo's first 4-track demo, simply called "Summer 02", soon circulated widely within underground electro circles and even found its way into the clubs. Soon after the demo release, Krischan J. E. Wesenberg joined the ROTERSAND crew. The DJ, sound engineer, and producer soon proved to be the perfect choice to give those rough song gems new facets and to make them sparkle and shine. One year later, ROTERSAND's debut full-length "Truth Is Fanatic" (2003) hit the stores and clubs. With their catchy fusion of EBM, dance music, and 80s pop, ROTERSAND had perfectly captured the vibe of the times. The album's massive production, outstanding songwriting, and meaningful lyrics took care of the rest. The German's follow-up, "Welcome to Goodbye'' was released on Dependent in 2005 and easily surpassed the early success of the debut. ROTERSAND had arrived on the international scene and the 'Doctor Who' sample "Exterminate Annihilate Destroy" from the single of the same name remained a staple in every electro club across Europe for years to come. "Welcome to Goodbye'' proved to be a cornucopia of hits. On the following tours, the band not only took audiences in Europe by storm, but their energetic shows also left their mark on the other side of the Atlantic while supporting COVENANT on their US tour. Highly danceable, epic pop tracks with a powerful EBM bite and a massive sound established ROTERSAND firmly as a cornerstone of the electro scene. For these reissues, ROTERSAND and Dependent took a few months to design fitting artwork and worthy content in celebration of these milestones. The gatefold albums will be pressed on 180g vinyl in classic black and limited orange colour. In addition to the bonus CD, the artbook versions also contain 36-page booklets with liner-notes by Rascal, Joakim Montelius (COVENANT) as well as former Rotersand manager and Dependent founder Stefan Herwig. This is topped off by the stunning artwork created by Nico J. Well yes, we are indeed a little proud of this opulent journey into the past.
GIRLS UNDER GLASS are back with a bang! The Germans' new studio album "Backdraft" is best described as a creative explosion that lets all the beloved sounds of their previous works shine brightly and combined on this record. "Backdraft" easily shifts gears from catchy gothic rock to electronic dark wave and up to melodic post-punk. And while this sounds reminiscent of the 80s and early 90s, GIRLS UNDER GLASS have not just rested on their past creative laurels but upgraded their music to the new millennium with a renewed passion that is audible in every note. Even though GIRLS UNDER GLASS revisit their classic themes, something fresh and new also shows in the lyrics, which in 2023 are less personal than before but reflect on the dystopian issues of our times. Yet although things change, sometimes they also return to a previous state. Former vocalist Thomas "Tom" Lücke has not only joined the band again on stage where he alternated with current singer Volker Zacharias , but Tom also recorded with GIRLS UNDER GLASS as he is singing on the tracks of the EP that comes alongside this album. GIRLS UNDER GLASS started out in the city of Hamburg in 1986 and quickly became a spearhead of the German gothic rock and dark wave scene. From 1994 until 2006, the band expanded their musical horizon and experimented with rock, crossover, and even metal sounds. With an impressive discography under their belt and a massive loyal fanbase, it came of something of a shock when the band seemed to fizzle out of existence. Luckily, the long wait is finally over: GIRLS UNDER GLASS return with a fiery and passionate full-length. "Backdraft" will return the band to where it belongs: on top!

This is the age of post-factual lies, which is reflected in MESH's album title "The Truth Doesn't Matter" and a dark undertone that occasionally seeps into their new songs. What remains entirely true is the fact that the UK duo has a nearly uncanny knack for writing electronic hits that are as elegant as they are captivating. "The Truth Doesn't Matter" bursts out like a sparkling firework while subtly referencing three decades of electronic music spanning from GIORGIO MORODER, YAZOO, and DEPECHE MODE via GARBAGE and MASSIVE ATTACK to more contemporary artists. At the same time, MESH always maintain their easily recognisable and unique musical identity as well as the trademark sounds that they have cultivated since their beginnings in the early nineties. With "The Truth Doesn't Matter", MESH climb yet another rung on the ladder leading to electronic music heaven. Each song wriggles its way happily into the brain and sticks around leading to spontaneous whistling of melodies and the public singing of extremely catchy chorus lines. You have been warned: "The Truth Doesn't Matter" is highly infectious and leads to a happier life!
"Songs of Future Memories (1982-2022)" is the long overdue second anthology dedicated to the Swedish pioneers of electronic music, TWICE A MAN. On three CDs, the finest tracks from the 14 song albums have been collected and diligently remastered. The 7 instrumental works of the band's catalogue have been deliberately left out of this project, which is intended to serve as a comprehensive musical guide through the band's outstanding career spanning over 4 decades of groundbreaking works. In addition to the known material, the band has also added two new tracks.

TWICE A MAN never took the easy way. Long before it became fashionable, the Swedes positioned themselves as early environmentalists, which became a theme running through their lyrics but is also reflected in their music, which amalgamates futuristic electronics and organic elements from the start. In their holistic approach of creating a sonic cosmos of their own, the band resembles THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS. Musically, theirs is a different story that been lovingly described as "Ultravox on weed – also melancholic but without the saccharine pathos" or "like a sad Gary Numan, but with a warm, organic touch". There are also gentle echoes of TANGERINE DREAM, KLAUS SCHULZE, and THE HUMAN LEAGUE among many other possible references.

When singer, guitarist, and keyboarder Dan Söderqvist teamed up with synth player Karl Gasleben in 1977, the duo formed COSMIC OVERDOSE as the first electronic band in Scandinavia. Although they sang in Swedish, their two albums created a buzz abroad, which led to COSMIC OVERDOSE being invited to support NEW ORDER on their first Scandinavian tour in 1981.

Being impressed with the band's performance, NEW ORDER's English promoter invited them over to the UK, but he found the name COSMIC OVERDOSE to be too closely related to drugs. This led to a change of band name to TWICE A MAN and the first concert under the new moniker took place in London on the 14th of December 1981.

In hindsight, the artistic contributions and keen interest of TWICE A MAN in environmental issues turns out to be quite prophetic. With our planet moving towards a catastrophe that is driven by human greed and stupidity, it seems that now is the perfect time to rediscover the pioneering work of this Swedish band. The art of TWICE A MAN reconciles electronic technology with the organic and natural. "Songs of Future Memories (1982-2022)" sends a beautiful and strong message to be both heard and enjoyed.
In the year of the 25th anniversary of the album, MESH reissue this long out of print milestone in a beautiful artbook edition packed with bonus materials. MESH had been conceived in 1991 when lead singer and guitarist Mark Hockings and keyboardist and vocalist Richard Silverthorn found friendship and mutual common ground, leading to the formation of the band. Their musical partnership has ever since defined MESH's enduring legacy. MESH's creative synergy emerged from a complementary distribution of roles: Richard Silverthorn composed the music, while Mark Hockings penned evocative and profound lyrics, infusing depth and emotion into their soundscapes. MESH's musical journey commenced with the release of the "Fragile" EP in 1994 and the full-length debut "In this Place Forever" two years later in 1996. The major label release of "Who Watches over Me" in 2002 propelled MESH further into the limelight and marked another turning point. A surge of popularity across Europe, particularly in Germany, let the UK band climb higher up the festival billings. "Automation Baby" (2013) reached #33 on the German album charts and generally dominated European Alternative Charts. With "Looking Skyward" (2016), MESH climbed to even greater heights with a #12 position on the German charts. Mark Hockings and Richard Silverthorn are currently in the process of writing the next MESH studio album. To shorten the eager wait for old and new fans alike, the duo is making their longtime sold out and much sought-after second album "The Point at Which It Falls Apart" available again in a diligently remastered version.
DERO GOI is back with a bang! The former OOMPH! frontman delivers a massive statement of intent regarding his future direction as an artist – both musically and lyrically – in the shape of the double album "1984", which is packed to the brim with synth hits. "1984" is a fascinating fusion of beloved retro-synth sounds, synth-wave, and EBM with contemporary electronic elements, and even a dose of his former life as a rock and metal musician. DERO GOI, who has always been recognised as an outstanding songwriter, has honed his craft to an even sharper edge. This massive collection of songs will make people dance and sing along, and it will fix catchy tunes into their minds that are bound to last for years to come. DERO GOI remains true to his unbending will of carrying on as a nonconformist artist. Always outspoken and never shy to share his views, his coming out as a Born Again Christian who is still critical towards organised religion and his declared libertarian political leaning have provoked a wide range of reactions. Those include massive obstacles to overcome in finding a label, a booking agent, and he even had to go through already confirmed shows being cancelled. This poses the question: how tolerant is a scene that prides itself of greatest openness to any social class and lifestyle when those values are being put to the test? Are freedom of the arts and freedom of thought only for those, who conform to currently popular ideals? Of course, even words have consequences and there are limits to any freedom, but should those apply to an artist who stands firmly on the ground of his country's constitution and is not breaking any laws? What is freedom worth, if it does not entail the right to dissent? DERO GOI begs to differ and that is not a crime. Before DERO GOI, who was born as Stephan Musiol on April 16, 1970 in the German city of Wolfsburg, founded OOMPH! in 1989, he already played in a band with his friend Thomas Döppner aka OOMH! guitarist and co-founder Crap at the age of 15 while both were still attending high school. His musical influences display an open mind to stylistic diversity as DERO GOI names among others D.A.F., NITZER EBB, FRONT 242, THE CURE, FAITH NO MORE, KILLING JOKE, EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN, AC/DC, DEPECHE MODE, EXTRABREIT, KRAFTWERK, THE BEATLES, ELVIS PRESLEY, and ABBA. DERO GOI has embarked on a course towards a more electronic direction than most of the songs that have previously come from him. "1984" is the testimony of an artist who is using a wide range of influences but who has even expanded his widely respected ability to write extremely catchy tunes. Whatever the listeners will make of this massive contribution to the scene, DERO GOI will never be a singer who holds back or accepts to be told to shut up. Whether you love "1984" or not, what you hear is what you get!
The beautiful chrysanthemum in its humble white form is also known as the cemetery flower as it is often used to adorn graves for its longevity. For BLACK NAIL CABARET, the chrysanthemum's blossom paves the way for our own deathbed portraits. We know that the grim reaper will come to us all and bring the end, which turns us into fear-filled jars. Our jar could be filled with so many other things but fear permeates all. The eponymous "Chrysanthemum" of the Hungarian pop noire duo's sixth album symbolises an uprising against that but also acceptance. Although BLACK NAIL CABARET remain true to their marked penchant for sexually explicit provocation, the primal, subconscious fear of death that triggers emotions, anxiety, and the fear of letting go is also a red thread running through the album that is metaphorically named "Chrysanthemum". The eroticism of the Hungarians has always avoided cheap clichés. Instead the duo artistically depicts their living BDSM reality, which is framed by high aesthetic standards. Musically, BLACK NAIL CABARET have brought their outstanding songwriting abilities closer to perfection. On "Chrysanthemum", the duo is seemingly effortless blending dark electronic sounds with pop noire elements. Their talent to write songs that can stand on their own and do not rely on electronic trickery has set BLACK NAIL CABARET apart from their peers. At the latest on their self-released full-length "Pseudopop" (2018), the Hungarians had successfully fused art, pop, dark harmonies, and powerful electronics. BLACK NAIL CABARET continued to hit the international scene with their fifth album "Gods Verging on Sanity" in 2020. The duo's excellent reputation rapidly spread through word of mouth even though the global pandemic enforced severe limitations upon them. Now the stars have all aligned, and BLACK NAIL CABARET are ready to take on the world with a dark soundtrack of life's glory that is symbolised by a shiny white flower of seeming innocence that at closer inspection also carries all the eternal might of death in its scent: "Chrysanthemum".
BLACK NAIL CABARET have set a musical exclamation mark with their current album "Gods Verging on Sanity" (2020). Despite their planned touring fell victim to the general circumstances, the duo has emerged even stronger from the last two years mainly through rapidly spreading word of mouth.

Their continued growth provides an excellent opportunity to let an early jewel from the band's back catalogue history shine in new splendour: When singer Emèse Árvai-Illes and Krisztián Árvai on keyboards self-released the album "Pseudopop" on their own Dichronaut Records label in 2018, the duo had already successfully fused art, pop, dark harmonies and exciting electronics. Hungarian journalist Mariusz Bari (Planet Damage) awarded the highest score (10)/10 and wrote: "BLACK NAIL CABARET has always been on a journey to perfect itself and this latest album is the perfect proof that they have not lost neither touch, nor control."

What sets BLACK NAIL CABARET remarkably apart from other bands of their genre is a penchant for sexually explicit provocation. The Hungarians not only managed to stay far away from being embarrassing or aiming for cheap thrills, but artistically depict their living BDSM reality framed by high aesthetic standards. Those who prefer to see a frog in the Rohrschach blobs on the album cover should perhaps dare to take a closer look.

In the duo's own words, it sounds like this: "'Pseudopop' is a summary of all the music that had a huge impact on our lives", wrote BLACK NAIL CABARET. "Regardless of style, we just emptied our minds, dropped genres, and let loose. It is a nice hybrid born out of the chaos within both of us and we like to think that our music is avant-garde contemporary pop with dark alternative roots."

On its initial release, "Pseudopop" came with nearly all the ingredients needed for greatness. The only item missing was a label with international outreach. Now the album will finally received the well deserved worldwide attention through a careful re-mastered reissue including a bonus track released by Dependent. Let the spotlight shine on BLACK NAIL CABARET and "Pseudopop".
TWICE A MAN planted the seed for "The Coloured Breeze Is a New Dimension" with the song 'Dahlia', a 'new' track that was written to complement the compilation album "Songs of Future Memories". For three years, the Swedish dark electronic trio fertilised and nurtured the germ bud until it had taken firm root in their musical heritage and began to send offshoots to find new sonic spots beyond any previously built garden walls. "The Coloured Breeze Is a New Dimension" is an organic entity that creates something new by re-combining its musical DNA in various ways. As a result its tracks blossom in many hues of electronic colours. TWICE A MAN have always been pioneers. They spearheaded electronic music in their native Sweden. Long before it was fashionable, the Swedes positioned themselves as environmentalists. Musically, they have been lovingly described as "Ultravox on weed – also melancholic but without the saccharine pathos" or "like a sad Gary Numan, but with a warm, organic touch". There are also gentle echoes of TANGERINE DREAM, KLAUS SCHULZE, and THE HUMAN LEAGUE among many other possible references. When singer, guitarist, and keyboarder Dan Söderqvist teamed up with synth player Karl Gasleben in 1977, the duo formed COSMIC OVERDOSE as the first electronic band in Scandinavia, which grew into TWICE A MAN. During their remarkable career, the Swedes released a multitude of full-length albums that include special projects and two compilations. They also played countless shows, and went on to create a soundtrack for 7 full-evening theatre performances at The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, music for movies, exhibitions, dance performances, and computer games. The natural world remains as a strong presence in the lyrics and sound of "The Coloured Breeze Is a New Dimension". It is the musical equivalent of TWICE A MAN seeking comfort by allowing their minds to wander into nature, art, and towards friends and books to get away at least for some time from modern evils.
Tracklist:
2ND FACE mastermind Vincent Uhlig has far surpassed the huge expectations stoked by the acclaimed debut album "Nemesis" with his sophomore full-length "utOpium". The certified German sound magician has created a multi-layered masterpiece that does not just feed pure ear-candy to audiophiles as any headphone-test will confirm, but also thrills with excellent songwriting and lyrical depth. The sound of "utOpium" is highly transparent and detailed yet at the same time aggressive and powerful, which perfectly fits the industrial genre, in which 2ND FACE operate and push the limits. Uhlig has invested five years of blood, sweat, and tears into this monster of an album. His work displays an obvious respect for industrial scene. The darkness of the Belgian school has left an audible mark in the sound of 2ND FACE yet also notes of SKINNY PUPPY, and even a knife tip of avant-garde pioneers TOOL. While referencing the industrial tradition, Uhlig also steers his own course, which for example manifests in his use of an EMS Synthi AKS and PPG-300 modular system inherited from his father – the krautrock pioneer Wolf-Rüdiger Uhlig (MURPHY BLEND, HANUMAN). Lyrically, "utOpium" takes a deep dive through the human mind and embarks on a philosophical journey to self-awareness. 2ND FACE also hold a a subtle mirror to society, which is fragmenting while collectively opting for (social) media self-hypnosis in the face of climate change and war. 2ND FACE were conceived by Vincent Uhlig in the German city of Mainz, capital of the Rhineland-Palatinate, in 2014. The 2017 debut full-length "Nemesis" was widely regarded as a "newcomer of the year" and did not only receive much praise from critics but also sold particularly well. With the EP "Nihilum", 2ND FACE confirmed their exceptional talent and status as fast-rising new stars on the industrial sky. With "utOpium", 2ND FACE achieve another quantum jump in quality and the sound of the album is bound to become a benchmark of the industrial genre for years to come. Put on your headphones, crank up your speakers, and let "utOpium" detonate into your ears!
Charismatic, enigmatic, and absolutely outstanding, singer Elena Alice Fossi, who is best known for her work with Italian electro-trailblazers KIRLIAN CAMERA, presents "Modernism", the fifth album of her eclectic project SPECTRA*Paris.
"Modernism" is transfiguring electronic music through the prism of Elena’s voice and several collaborations with other musicians into a beautiful kaleidoscope of stylistic colours ranging from EBM, future pop, dark electronic, art pop, and various influences more.
Among the artists that gladly followed Elena's call are KIRLIAN CAMERA mastermind ANGELO BERGAMINI, PROJECT PITCHFORK, SEASURFER, legendary producer JOHN FRYER, who worked with DEPECHE MODE and NINE INCH NAILS alongside many others, JOHN ROX & OXYDION, African singer-songwriter FAKEBA, and guitarist and producer MICHAEL CIRAVOLO (BEAUTY IN CHAOS, HUMAN DRAMA).
"Modernism" in a way is a musical child that was born out of the isolation that was imposed on Northern Italy during the pandemic. Elena trapped into the SPECTRA*Paris songs all the notes that absorb her fears, her astonishment, and her sense of confusion into what she calls "a weird concoction of melancholy and rhythm". Her music is complemented and underlined by the beautiful artwork that accompanies this album.
SPECTRA*Paris was conceived as an electronic rock oriented project in the wake Elena's previous project SIDERARTICA. In 2007 she self-released the ultra-rare promo 3" CD-R limited to 25 copies "Spectra Murder Show" and immediately got picked-up by a label, which led to the acclaimed first album "Dead Models Society (Young Ladies Homicide Club)" hitting the streets in the same year. The debut reached the charts in many countries and went up to gold. Elena followed-up with two successful albums in 2010, "License to Kill" and "Christmas Ghouls". Tracks from these recordings as well as the latest album "Retromachine Betty" (2017) have been used in tv and catwalk soundtracks.
With "Modernism", SPECTRA*Paris chronicle Elena Alice Fossi's prison-break into the freedom that only true art can grant. Aided by her accomplice and long-time friend Angelo Bergamini, who co-produced and supervised every sound in this chapter, the composer and singer has delivered a fascinating personal statement via a wide range of electronic music.
